At Sacred Heart College Preparatory during the evening of October 30th, the Girls' Water Polo Varsity team was ready to take on the Archbishop Mitty Monarchs in the semi-final of the WCAL playoffs. Archbishop Mitty, a team the Lancers have struggled with in the past, proved to be a challenge for them.
Â
Center Jackie Hunyady '29 played a spectacular game against Mitty. The freshman had three goals for the Lancers, two of which came from penalty shots, which were both planned with perfect precision. The other goal came from a special play that Hunyady has with Goalie, MC Sliesoraitis '26.Â
Â
"MC knows when it's the right time. She'll give you the eyes and she'll send it down the pool. It feels really good to get an easy goal," Hunyady said.
Â
Silesoraitis also played an amazing game. With a handful of saves against the Monarchs, she certainly was the backbone of the Lancers' defense. Despite being a defensive specialist, Silesoraitis also helped with the offense, setting up Hunyady's offensive plays.
Â
"It's just a counterattack. If I see that Jackie is up by a lot, I know that I'm allowed to launch the ball, and it'll be safe, and it usually comes out with a goal," Silesoraitis said.
Â
The Lancers won the game 7-6, with three of those seven goals coming from Hunyady. Other goals came from Annie Carr '28, who had two goals, Alex Swall '27, and Sophia Ereno '26.Â
Â
The team will play in the CCS Quarterfinals on Saturday, November 8th, after finishing the season with a 12-14 record. Go Lancers!
