Cassie Smillie Girls Water Polo Coach
(Mountain View, CA) – Saint Francis High School is pleased to announce that Cassie Smillie has been named head coach of the girl's water polo program.
A native of the Bay Area and alumna of Los Altos High School, Cassie brings Olympic-level experience and championship-coaching credentials to our water polo program. During her collegiate career at Indiana University, Cassie established herself as the best goalkeeper in Hoosier history, earning All-American honors in both 2011 and 2012.
A former USA National Team goalkeeper with a silver medal at the World University Games, Cassie made history as the first American female water polo player to compete in the Hungarian League, where she earned several championship medals, including a silver in 2014 and a bronze in 2015.
Her coaching accomplishments include serving as an assistant coach at Stanford University (NCAA Finalist), head coach at Washington & Jefferson College, and athletic director/coach at The Hill Boarding School, where she led teams to conference championships.
Beyond athletic accomplishments, Cassie holds a B.S. in Science and Arts from Indiana University and pursued postgraduate studies in Business Analytics at San Jose State University. She has been actively involved in youth development as a lead female mentor with Bodin Mentoring & GRIT Life Coaching since 2018.

Athletic Director Matt Maguire '98 is looking forward to Cassie continuing the strong Lancer tradition in the pool. "I am excited for Cassie to join our Lancer family and lead the next chapter of Lancer water polo. Her passion for mentoring student-athletes and making a difference in their lives will make her a great fit on our campus," he said
