Blessing of Spring Season Athletes

Blessing of Spring Season Athletes

On Tuesday, March 22, 2022 members of the baseball, boys golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, softball, swimming and diving, boy's tennis, track and field, and softball teams gathered around the Bay Tree for the Blessing of In-Season Athletes. This prayer service serves an important way for our athletic programs to come together as a community of Faith.

Ryan Lee '22, a baseball player and track and field athlete and Piper Galbraith '23 from girl's lacrosse both offered personal reflections following the first reading, read by Hope Fordyce '22, a track athlete. In his remarks, Ryan discussed how important it is to trust your teammates and what can come from doing that. He reminded students of what a privilege it is to play sports at Saint Francis and in the WCAL. As a senior, he urged underclassmen to appreciate the opportunities that still stand in front of them. Piper recalled the impact her teammates had on her as a freshman on the team. She urged her fellow upperclassmen to extend the value of family to everyone who wears the brown and white. Special thanks to Audrey Holden '22 from swimming and Max Oberwies-Manion '22  from golf for their leadership in prayer.

All in attendance received a blessing and a medal of Saint Andre Bessette, CSC—the first saint of the Congregation of Holy Cross—to place on their sports bag or backpack. These sacramentals serve as reminders that we can look to holy men and women, like Brother Andre for guidance and inspiration. His example of humble service, gracious hospitality and love of God can help our teams become more like the family before which we stood.

Special thanks to those in Campus Ministry and Father Tony for their service.

GO LANCERS!
